Around last July I bought a book by Melanie de Miguel, called ‘Let’s Hubble’. It was an introduction to a fabulous new beading stitch, called, of course, Hubble Stitch. I worked up a few of the projects in this lovely book until I’d got the hang of it, in all its various sizes and effects. I loved it.
It wasn’t long before I had designed a bracelet using Hubble stitch and my favourite SuperDuo beads, forming a beautiful fan shape, that reminded me of Spanish Flamenco dresses. So of course, I called it, ‘Flamenco’. But before I published it as a tutorial, I offered it to Beadwork magazine. In August I had an email back accepting it for publication in the June/July 2016 issue of Beadwork.
Several months went by, during which we signed contracts and agreed fees, then in February, the proofs came through for me to check.
A week ago UPS knocked on my door, with a package. I was curious as I wasn’t waiting for any packages at all, and even questioned that he was at the right address. Of course he was, so I took the package, opened it…..then danced around the kitchen. It was my three sample bracelets returned, along with my contributor copy of the magazine.
It’s so exciting to see my work published and with such fabulous photos to show the bracelet off at its best. And the best thing is, once the magazine is on general sale, I can then publish the tutorial with ‘as seen in Beadwork’.
I am certainly a happy bunny! Watch this space for the release of the tutorial in the summer.
